WHAT READERS SAY

  • "Not only have we used this book to discover previously-not-visited eateries in our general area, we’ve also found it handy to find places to meet up with faraway friends as ‘halfway’ venues for lunch. Planning on using it throughout this summer for future getaways, in a bid to avoid the usual chains. Fab food and surroundings so far, and a very nicely written book to keep in the car for road trip inspo. I will be purchasing another copy for my campervanning friend."

  • "Loved the book, easy to map out your drive and figure out where to stop. We stopped in Ripley at this beautiful cafe. It was SUCH a joy not to be at a service station. Can’t wait to use it again."

  • "When you travel with your dog you can find yourself a bit stuck when visiting those horrible service stations. You can’t take your dog in with you and in the summer you can’t leave your dog in the car whilst you pop to the loo. The Extra Mile lists loads of wonderful places to stop for a break on most of the main road through the whole of the country. Many are dog friendly so you can plan your route knowing you will get good food and give your dog a stretch of the legs and maybe something to eat too. Best buy for travelling with your dogs."

  • "What a brilliant idea. After a recent trip from Sussex to Cornwall (and back) to visit an elderly relative, with little to sustain me but grim overpriced motorway services food, how delighted was I when I spotted a mention of this in a magazine. I'm almost looking forward to my next motorway journey, just so I can make a detour to one of the locations listed."

    ***** Five-star Amazon review, 20 August 2023

  • "The book is a good size to pop in the glovebox and pull out whenever needed. Motorway Services are always so pricey and unappealing. Actually finding places that are little gems really adds to an experience and makes the stop-offs really worthwhile. It's handy that you can just quickly find the places on the maps, and that the opening times are there and a QR code for a quick check on details."

  • "Love this book. I travel a lot for my job, and having a handy guide to places to visit rather than the normal bland service stations is amazing. The book is really well put together with a great breakdown of the various areas of the country and a nice write up for each of the cafés. I visited a couple already and I've not been disappointed."

WHAT CAFÉ OWNERS SAY

  • "We leave our copies [of The Extra Mile] near the coffee machine and people browse our café copy while waiting. Everyone who picks it up says what a brilliant idea it is - which normally leads to a sale. I've just ordered 20 more."

    — Alfie, Fred and Ginger Coffee, Hertfordshire

  • "The Extra Mile is definitely really popular this year. It's got a great cover, too, and has a real 'pick-me-up' vibe. Just wanted to say thank you for choosing us to be in the publication and well done because it looks really great!"

    — Dean, Monks Yard, Horton Cross

  • "Our customers love the idea. We display the books as you enter the café so they catch the eye immediately. I have one for people to flick through which has helped to sell a lot! I’ll put a pic up on Insta when the next batch arrives to remind everyone what a great idea it is."

    — Tracy, Tray’s Café, Hungerford

  • "We've had several guests come to us from The Extra Mile recently. They all took the trouble to tell us, both because they were enjoying our food so much and because they couldn't believe how wonderful every venue in the book is. What a credit to you this is!"

    — Sally, What’s Cooking, Thame

  • "I've just reordered more of The Extra Mile. It’s such a brilliant idea and people love the book. This is our first time in one of your guides and we've already sold at least 15 which is really good for us (as we're a café not a bookshop!)."

    — Emily, The Old Dairy, Martock

  • "I thought I'd show you this five-star review on Tripadviser. We've had five couples travel to us especially as a result of the guide so, thank you! It was well worth it. Can I buy a few more copies to stock?"

    — Rob and Sue, Hub and Spoke Café, Dunstable
